The only good thing I can remember about Augusta is the time Outbreak and Instilled played this spotcalled The Carpri or something like that. I think its a safe guess to say 4 or 5 cars plus the Instilled van drove down for that show. Since then, i've caught Blacklisted, my old band Cold Stare played there and maybe one other show. All terrible turnouts with a big dose of awkwardness. Speaking of dose, the final mosh is tommorow at The Treehouse in Lawrenceville. Overdose will be playing one last time. Getting back to the show, so we played with a bunch of bands including; No Turning Back, Wake Up Call, I Rise, Election Day, Like Wolves, and Where it Ends. It seemed like the show was never going to end, but we managed to make it home before 3am. Shows like that really make you appreciate your current geographical location. Atlanta is bad, but Augusta is worse. A band made a comment about us last night, stating something to the tune of(not completely accurate); "Foundation is one of the few bands in hardcore that I think really do something for hardcore." I'm not making an issue out of that but, things like that can be somewhat overwhelming for me, considering we haven't accomplished that much? I sometimes get the feeling that our music might be going in different directions from a majority of bands, but that was always my goal in the first place. I always had the mentality of, there should only people one current band that sounds a certain way. There should only be one Blacklisted. There should only be one Bane. There should only be one Rise and Fall. There should only be one Verse. All fairly recent bands in the grand scheme of things. One at a time.

Gilmour and Hiwatt

Ahhhhh, the Hiwatt DG 103 Custom. Despite the fact that I wasnt in attendance, here is a picture from the gig. For those who have heard Absolution before, I strongly recommend that you check them out. The original lineup consisted of the skeleton that would later go on to such acts including:Burn, Quicksand, Die 116, and many other various projects. To the left of you is the hardcore riff textbook, Gavin van Vlack.

In other news, the weekend with New Mexican Disaster Squad, Blacklisted and Paint it Black was truly amazing. Within minutes of meeting the dudes in Paint it Black for the first time their was an instant comraderie amongst the bands. Blacklisted, as always were fun to hang out with and very greatful to be borrowing our equipment 3 nights in a row. Everyone played great every night even in the most strange situations. (ie Jacksonville FL.) In August we will be back in Florida on the Forfeit tour. Pictures from gigs and hang outs coming soon.

Paint it Blacklisted Weekend

Friday Morning Foundation embarks on a 3 day weekend with hardcore greats, Paint it Black, Blacklisted, and New Mexican Disaster Squad.

05/30: Jacksonville, FL @ Fuel

05/31: Lake Worth, FL @ Klein Dance Center

06/01: Orlando, FL @ Backbooth

Six Organs of Admittance

With the Six Organs of Admittance catalog being extensively long, its no suprise that it took me as long as it did to discover the perfect release most suitable for my own personal tastes. Ben Chasny, the mastermind behind SOOA is no stranger to music. Having played in such acts including; Current 93, Comets on Fire, and Magik Markers, it seems inconsequential to try to understand Chasny's approach to song writing. With such a dynamic history of releases, Six Organs of Admittance has something for everyone.

Dark Noontide being my favorite record from SOOA, serves as the type of music worth listening to in long car rides when all other passengers are sleeping or when its dark noontide, no pun intended. With parallel intuiton in SOOA's song writing such as Chasny's predecessor Elliott Smith; its only natural being as they come from similar geographical regions. Northern California/Oregon. Dark Noontide, serving more of a campfire mystique, releases an atmosphere related to some sort of intangible world with flutes, recorders, tablas and various other instruments being the only audible noises you hear.

i leave the rest up to you.

- d

Foundation Florida Weekend Fast Approaching

Ladies and gentlemen, Sofia Shinas

So about 2, maybe 3 months ago we got a call to play a few dates with hardcore greats; Paint it Black and Blacklisted in Florida. At this very moment, this has been the most anticipated week of my life. Tomas made it home last night, a few of us helped Overdose record their final song with a bang, Shipwreck show tommorow night, and then we leave for Florida on Friday.

During all this mess going on, I still can't seem to maintain any type of comfort. Before I was introduced to the Wall and Floyd's more commerical success, Ummagumma was my first taste of underground sub-genres coming out of Britain at the time.

Released in the states on November 10th 1969, Ummagumma peaked at #74 on the US album charts, marking Pink Floyd's debut on the Billboard Top 100. A brilliant record, composed of 1 full live set recorded in Birmingham, England followed by a complete studio album.

Back From The Dead

Here is a picture of what recent Rise and Fall shows look like.

So it has been awhile since I last posted on this blog. In recent events there has been a vast influx in the amount of blogger subscribers which is pretty cool. Now I can read about the adventures of Kei in Tokyo and amazing bands like Blacklisted and Fucked Up, not to mention know what Chucky is wearing 16 hours away. ..

So I have 4 months of school left before I graduate. Hopefully somewhere along the way I can figure out what i'm going to be doing for the next 5 years. Part of me wonders why the hell did I choose radiology? The other part of me is excited about the possibilities of going back to school and eventually becoming a doctor. I can't settle on the idea of being a registered pee-on the rest of my life. I tend to relate to my mom's career, she has been a nurse for 30 years and I consantly see her upset with the current state of healthcare. I'm going to go ahead and assume she's been miserable taking orders from superiors for about 95% of her career. Its good to be back.

Saw the Loved Ones play the Masq the other nite. It was pretty sweet seeing that much amp in one tiny little area of the store. Obviously I knew Sevanada was more than likely going to get a good listen from across the street but that didnt stop me from the excitement. While they were setting up I got to hear Atsuo(the drummer) doing sound check, he had so much delay and reverb in the drum monitors, it was pretty crazy since i had never heard drums sound anything like that before. When it was finally time for them to start playing, all you could here was the resonance from all four guitarists jamming on their E-Bows. It was like some long drawn out opus with nothing but distortion and feedback present. After about 5 minutes of complete guitar onslaught, Atsuo came out from behind the back and started going crazy on the gong from behind the drum throne. Everything the band played was so polished and precise, it blows my mind how bands even rehearse music like that. I wish they would have played "The Sinking Belle," off of Altar but thats just wishful thinking. Check out there new record Rainbow.

Straight Edge Photography

Saturday night a few of us went to the premier of this book at YoungBlood boutique in East Atlanta. Tons of familiar faces, people from all over the country, Undertow, Unbroken, and Turning Point on house music. Not to mention a portrait of John Pettibone hanging on the wall, and a pretty sweet $15 book. With the exception of a forward and a brief explanation, the majority of the book is simply just pictures of individuals with their name and how long they have been straight edge. The photography is excellent but I wish there had been more context and stories from some of the figures that were photographed. This book was definitely intended to be the photography book that sits on your coffee table and it shows. I never really knew that individuals are capable of training their mind to think from different hemispheres at different times. With everything else in life, I was a little skeptical of this book at first, since its written by one author and comes off as almost like a 'name brand' philosophy. Alot of the visuals in the book seem a little bogus since i'm accustomed to medical anatomy books, but besides the anantomy illustrations everything is pretty informative. The mind mapping devices such as the illustration above was fascinating to use as a guide when I was reading the book. At one point I was trying to read every word in the order in which I would find most interesting, it ended up being one big thought derived from somewhere in the neighborhood of twenty words.

It was pretty interesting to learn about note-taking and what to take notes on and what not to. The book was addressing the idea that avoiding monotonous words and single-color phrases helps the brain collect important data without over working brain cells, by searching to find key terms and information. Most teachers from middle school- present day stress the importance of jotting only the important material you here, but this books specifies what exactly 'is' the important information.

Another interesting concept about Mind Maps is how mind expansion the brain works at full potential. Since its reported as impossible to use our brains at full potential because of all the different distractions going on at the present moment, (ie myself thinking about 8 million different things while i'm writing this, along with cars and birds making noise) brain cells fail to latch on to different brain cells. The goal is for us to focus on one individual thought at a time, thats how more not full potential can be acheived. Pretty interesting.

-d

Guinness: Only 100 Calories, We didn't do that on purpose

Exhibit a:<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4npCWHa2NQo/RvE-QBzTGVI/AAAAAAAAAGs/vEF4XouTmaE/s320/jeans.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5111935497124649298" />

Exhibit b:<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4npCWHa2NQo/RvE_ThzTGWI/AAAAAAAAAG0/TgJxr_pIe8M/s320/nile.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5111936656765819234" />

Exhibit c:<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4npCWHa2NQo/RvE_iBzTGXI/AAAAAAAAAG8/d-2T1PXU6SA/s320/fgfgf.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5111936905873922418" />

Exhibit d:<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4npCWHa2NQo/RvE_qxzTGYI/AAAAAAAAAHE/_tRTCEHiQmY/s320/motorcycle.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5111937056197777794" />

Exhibit e:<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_4npCWHa2NQo/RvFAzRzTGZI/AAAAAAAAAHM/QsUehYG0SKQ/s320/plh.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5111938301738293650" />

Exhibit f:<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4npCWHa2NQo/RvFBFBzTGaI/AAAAAAAAAHU/pYFFVhlIiRk/s320/80860.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5111938606680971682" />

Pictures above borrowed from the Guinness book of world records website.

Exhibit A presents the most valuable jeans ever made from the Guinness book of world records. Now i'm sure Evil Spawn(Dood, don't know shit about shit,Evil one) and Champ(james carol, let me get a shirt, jean aficionado) would enjoy knowing that these jeans sold at auction for 60,000. At the time these lousy denim were 115 years old and one of the first pair of Levi's ever manufactured. Now I understand the historical importance of these, but not for 60 grand.

Exhibit B makes Flo Jo and Venus Williams look like lightweights. Tom Thompson had a titanium plate measuring 15 x 11 cm (5.9 x 4.33 in) inserted into the left side of his head by neurosurgeons at DeKalb General Hospital, Decatur, Georgia, USA on April 30, 1971. The surgery took place after he had been struck by a car and pronounced dead on arrival at the local hospital. Amazing.

Exhibit F This dudes diet is crazy. He's been eating metal and glass at a rate of about 900 grams or 2 pounds everyday since 1959. Third period had just started and some kid in our gym class was laughing about how some commercial aircraft just slammed into Manhattan. All I thought right after it happened was, "How could it be this long before something like this happened?" Not aware at the time that this was no accident but more of a 'terrorist attack.' In between class changes, I ended up being the first one to class. Our teacher was already watching CNN live when the second plane hit. Immediately I knew something far greater than a simple accident had occured. Needless to say we did nothing the rest of the day except shake in our boots thinking CDC off Clifton Road was next. Luckily nothing happened since my dad is an employee there.

I'm curious to hear where you were when this event occured. Certain moments such as this, you never really forget where you were or what you were doing.

Its funny how to this day, the phrases terror, terrorist, and terrorism are used on national television more than; love, the, and "Braves win."

Into The Wild

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_4npCWHa2NQo/Rt6vbjl1ukI/AAAAAAAAAFI/KLMMmMazEN8/s320/into_the_wild_movie_poster.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5106711915430001218" />

Coincidentally I started reading this book written by John Kraukauer on Monday which also happens to be the release date in Canada for Sean Penn's movie. Based on the true story of Christopher McCandless who in 1990 graduated from Emory University. Shortly after graduating abandons all of his possesions as well as life savings to hitchike to Alaska. Obsessed with Leo Tolstoy and the possibilities of complete freedom, McCandless avoids complete contact with his past life and relationships with family and friends. In short(without ruining the plot) make sure you either read this book or see this movie in theaters on September 21st. Movie starring Emile Hirsch who was the main character in Girl Next door and Vince Vaughn.

Owner of Cbgbs Dies

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4npCWHa2NQo/RtWW6Tl1uhI/AAAAAAAAAEw/WK-G6Iy3gio/s320/08hilb.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5104151681129888274" />

Collected from New York Newswire

It is with deep sadness and regret that we inform you of the death of Hilly Kristal, who died on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 from complications from Lung Cancer.
Kristal, 75, founded the legendary rock club CBGB and ran the club for 33 years.
A singer and songwriter himself, Kristal opened the club to showcase "Country Bluegrass and Blues"; instead the club became a breeding ground for Punk rock. Among the many acts that called CBGB home were Blondie, the Talking Heads, Television, Living Color, Patti Smith and the Ramones.

The club closed in October 2006, but CBGB continues, with a retail store in New York City and worldwide merchandise sales; in addition, there currently are plans to open new CBGB clubs in several locations.

Kristal is survived by his daughter, Lisa Kristal Burgman, son, Mark Dana Kristal, son-in-law Ger Burgman, grandchildren Jenny and Adam Burgman, CBGB, and the thousands of artists and musicians who played the club.

A private memorial service is planned. A public memorial will be held at a later date.

Contributions in Hilly's honour may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society or to the Hilly Kristal Foundation for Musicians and Artists (168 Second Avenue, PMB 207, New York, NY 10003).

Jesu and Eluvium

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4npCWHa2NQo/RtBgAjl1ugI/AAAAAAAAAEo/bxi7THtnQI8/s320/trr126.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5102683940480989698" />

With a natural appreciation for eachothers music, Jesu and Eluvium join together to compose a record complimenting their similar musical influences. Justin K Broadrick of Jesu offers a daring change in direction with tracks like, "Blind and Faithless," and "Farewell." At times their are still elements of Godflesh, (without all the hate) but for the most part this new material develops a sound much like the late shoegaze band, Ride. As for Eluvium, the only track "Time-travel of the sloth," gives the listenener a continuation of where Jesu leaves off. Definite brilliancy in the planning and preparations of this record. With 2,000 copies already sold through Temporary Residence, on August 22nd Hydra Head records released their portion of this collaboration. A definite must for fans of minimalism as well as shoegaze influenced bands like Mojave 3, Ride, and Swervedriver.

Are Mokkelbost

Some pretty amazing collage art. Many people compare anything with even a slight groove to bands like; Into Another, Burn, and even Quicksand, but for a band like Soul Control and their ever-changing progression, there is no denying they are quickly developing a sound entirely of their own.

Pre-orders are now available for Soul Control's first full length on Rivalry Records. The first track, "Panic" opens with news clips being played on repeat with a driving bass line downplayed in the mix. Everything about this record from the order of the track listing to the approach of the song writing illustrates a more natural responsiveness as opposed to most releases in recent memory. Climate of Fear will serve as one of modern hardcore's most important albums, standing among its predocessors such as; Best Wishes by Cro-Mags and Brightside by Killing Time. With the title track, "Belürol Pusztít," it begins with very slow, heavy guitar resonance and Attila Csihar's landmark "sealed in a coffin" vocals spoken in Hungarian. Around the 15th minute, Joe Preston makes his entrance with a jackhammer solo, nearly drowning out the mix. Besides the musical element of this release the visual appeal is also fascinating. A collaboration with New York sculptor Banks Violette helped contribute to the music offering a replica of Sunn's backline cast in salt. I'll save the rest for you to enjoy. http://www.southernlord.com/

Intro

As a general lack of interest on the internet I decided to go ahead and write and design a new blog. Justin Jordan who is no longer with us and I used to do a Heart of Atlanta blog shortly after the release of issue # 4, but because of the circumstances I will no longer be posting on that site. Hindue Times is a play on words designed to let the reader know as a disclaimer, whatever written in this blog is not to be taken seriously. Most of what I write is not to be taken seriously, strictly fact vs opinion.
